Dear Parents,
We are excited to share some great news with you! Our expanded learning program partner, Right at School (RAS), is planning to offer a Summer Camp for students in TK through 8th grade.
This year’s camp will feature fun and engaging weekly themes, including Imagination Island, Brilliant Builders, and Carnival Creators—sure to spark creativity and keep students active and inspired all summer long!
Please see the attached flyers for more details. I encourage you to consider enrolling your child—it's going to be a fantastic experience!

Dear Families,
We’re thrilled to announce that registration is now open for Luther Burbank’s Winter Camp for students in grades TK–8, happening from January 6–10! To register, simply log in to your existing RAS LineLeader account and add the camp.
If you need any assistance with the registration process or have questions, please contact the site program manager, Valeria, at 408-829-5925—she’ll be happy to help!
For in-person support, we’ll also be available in the school library this Friday, from 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM to assist with registration.
We’re excited about this fun and enriching opportunity for our students and hope to see your child there! Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any additional questions.

We had a wonderful day! So much fun, creativity and joy. To conclude the Harvest Fedtival celebration, students received a bag of school supplies donated by KTVU and Supplybank.org..

Dear Parents,
Thank you for your ongoing support, patience and cooperation as the new administrative team transitions and learns the Luther Burbank School District’s culture. Please join us to meet the admin team.

August 16th, 2023:
First Day of School & Student Schedules:
Our teachers are excited to meet their students. By now families should have received a welcome back email from your students' teacher with their homeroom assignment. Additionally, homeroom assignments will be posted during tonight's event and remain posted outside the front office until the start of school.
Gate Changes (TK-1 Families)
We are making a change to how our TK-1 families enter campus. The gate on San Carlos Ave. will no longer be used. We are asking our TK-1 families to please enter on Wabash Avenue at the front of school. This change will address a number of safety issues and ensure the wellbeing of our students and families. Students will be directed to the kindergarten play area where they will meet their teachers. Please see the attached Campus MAP for more information. We recommend families arrive at school by 7:45 AM.
Drop Off Procedures (Grades 2-8)
Grades 2-8 will continue to access campus along the Wabash and Olive gates. We recommend families arrive at school by 7:45 AM. As a reminder, we kindly ask parents to say their goodbyes at the gate. For safety reasons we ask only students pass through the gate into campus. Once on campus, students will make their way to the field and line up according to homeroom assignments. Homeroom signs will be posted. As a final reminder, parking on Wabash Ave. is not permitted and we kindly ask families to plan accordingly.

Dear Luther Burbank Families,
It is with a heavy heart that I'm writing to inform our community of a loss of one of our students and their family member. This sudden and unexpected tragic event has deeply affected the entire Luther Burbank community.
At this time, we do not have any further information to release in regard to the circumstances. Out of respect and privacy for the family, we ask that all conversations and speculations about what occurred be avoided. We are working closely with the family and will share additional information as appropriate.
During situations like these, many feelings can arise. Please know we are deploying all available resources, including school counseling services, county wellness support, and the Center for Living with Dying to support teachers and students.
We want to share some additional resources to support conversations at home. Every student is unique, and there is no way to predict how the loss of a fellow student may impact them.
Be on the lookout for sudden changes in your child's behavior. This might be a signal that your child may need assistance to deal with the death of a friend.
Please talk with your child about their feelings about the tragedy; share your feelings too.
Talk about what happened; give your child information they can understand.
Reassure your child that they are safe; you may need to repeat this reassurance often.
Listen and comfort your child often.
Please don't hesitate to contact our school counselor, Diana Benavides @ 408-295-1814 if you feel further follow-up with your child would be helpful.
Thanks for your support as we move forward. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family during this time of loss and grief.
Sincerely,
Gregory Barnes Ed.D
Principal, Luther Burbank School

Reading Tip! Reading 20 minutes a day exposes kids to a vast quantity of words (1.8 million in each school year, actually!). And this exposure makes children more likely to score in the 90th percentile on standardized tests.

Please join our community wide challenge this year to have all parents commit to volunteering/participating in 15-20 hours of school events. This includes attending school meetings such as Cafecitos, Parent Academic Nights, Conferences, and Special School Events.

The new school year is off to a smooth and wonderful start! We are excited to work in partnership with you to Engage, Educate, and Empower your child to be compassionate leaders and problem solvers in our school community and beyond!
